The Spring Renewal week at Blue Cairn Lodge offers a charming and cosy cottage on the doorstep of the Pyrenees National Park. South-facing and with wonderful panoramic views, you will enjoy meals outside in the sun, spectacular walks in the surrounding mountains, wholesome, fresh food, yoga, stretching, aromatherapy-massage, reiki, reflexology, Indian head massage and luxurious thermal baths…all that you need to feel truly renewed.

65G193011[10]Saturday : We meet you at either the train station or airport in Lourdes and set off for our accommodation in the Pyrenean village of Arras en Lavedan. You should have some time to settle in and wander around the village or on the paths leading out of the village.

Sunday : We leave Arras at 9am after breakfast to drive up to Hautacam for beautiful ridge walk. Picnic by the Isaby Lake. (Walking time : 4 hours ; Alt gain ; 300m). Back at home, 1 hour yoga. Evening meal on terrace.

Monday : After early morning yoga and breakfast we drive up to the Pont d’Espagne, above Gaubethe thermal village of Cauterets. We’ll walk up through the forest to reach the famous Lac de Gaube and then continue on to the Oulettes Refuge looking onto the North face of the Vignemale (at 3298m it is the highest summit in the French Pyrenees). Picnic with view ! (Walking time 4 hours ; 500m altitude gain). On our way down, we stop at Cauterets’ superb thermal baths for two hours of pure bliss…bubbling thermal waters, hammam, sauna.

Tuesday : We start the day with yoga and continue at the authentic and colourful Argeles market. Indulge in a coffee and croissant on terrace and then wander the stalls for shopping or just taste local cheeses, saucissons, and the famous blueberry tourte. We will buy our picnic here and head back home for a local walk in our Val d’Azun. From our doorstep, we climb up to the Mont de Gez for panoramic views and picnic on a huge granite table ! (4 hours Market Argeleswalking ; 400m alt gain). Back for a relaxing meditation and evening meal.

Wednesday : Rest day on option (!) with plenty of walks out the door for a wander. Optional introduction to Meditative Walking (1h30) in the beauty of our cross country ski tracks through the forest. The time is yours to relax, read, wander, sleep…  Yoga before our evening meal to prepare us for more walking tomorrow.

Thursday : We head off for a walk in the Neouvielle Nature Reserve. This lake filled area is dotted with contrasting colours, flowers, mountains, lakes and streams. A quick and very refreshing swim before a picnic may tempt some ! (5 hours total walking ; 500m alt gain). Yoga before dinner. Re-centre your energy!

Friday : The grande finale ; Gavarnie, UNESCO World Heritage Site with its 420m waterfall and spectacular views over French-Spanish Gavarnie HRP4border summits of 3000m ! Catch a glimpse of the famous Breche de Roland and picnic on the Pailla Plateau above the cirque. (Walking time 5 hours ; alt gain 500m). We stop at the Argeles thermal baths for two more hours of pure relaxation followed by a well-deserved last dinner in local restaurant.

Saturday : We say good bye and drop you back to Lourdes train station or airport.


Blue Cairn CottageYour accommodation is a cosy two bedroom cottage with post-card views from every window. Each bedroom provides the possibility of double or twin beds. Your kitchen is fully equipped and a wide range of wholesome and healthy, locally produced goods are provided for you to prepare your choice of breakfast and picnic lunches. Evening meals are provided by a local chef and served at the gîte, inside or on the garden table. You will enjoy the space of a large south-facing garden where you can sit out and enjoy the views with a book or a drink. We eat out in a local restaurant for the last evening. Vegetarian/other dietary requirements can be catered for if mentioned at time of booking.


BlueCairnWe take you on guided walks five days in order to explore the valleys, ridge-lines and summits of the Hautes-Pyrénées in all their beauty and splendour. All walking is guided by either Mandy or Sacha (both qualified international mountain leaders) and we have chosen a range of itineraries which will delight all. Care is taken to adapt the itineraries to the level of the group and this can be done easily due to our small group numbers. An average walking day consists of 4-5 hours at a relatively gentle walking pace with 300-700m altitude gain. All walks may be adapted according to conditions.

An Average Day

6am – 8:30am : Breakfast (help yourself and prepare your picnic lunch) and morning yoga.
9am : Head out for our walk
10am – 4pm : Walking Time
5.30pm : 1 hour yoga
7:30 : Dinner
