A ski tour in the “water tower of Europe”

In the heart of the central Alps this is a very original ski tour, where we set of for what feels like a long voyage in north eastern Switzerland. From Graubünden we set out to on a circular route passing through the Ticino and taking in the narrow valleys of the Rhin. In pure Swiss tradition our accommodation is always in guarded refuges (except one) and the terrain is exceptionally varied. There is a compulsory technical passage, the Rheinwaldhorn (known as Adula in Italy and also Piz Valrhein), which is the high point of the Adula massif. This massif is situated between the sources of the Rhin, the Rhone and the Inn Rivers, and some of the tributaries of the Po River. This position allows the massif to be named the water tower of Europe.

ITINERARY
DAY 1
Transfer from Zurich airport to Disentis. Meet with guide and discuss the plan for the week, check equipment etc.
DAY 2
Transfer by bus to Curaglia (1300 m). Today we climb a long valley to arrive at the Camona da Medel (2524 m) perched in the pass.
DAY 3
Today is a technical traverse. We start by climbing the Piz Medel (3211 m) and then the Piz Uffiern (3131 m). We come back to sleep at the Camoma da Medel (2524 m).
DAY 4
Today we start by a descent before climbing the Piz Valdraus (3096 m), leaving Graubünden and heading towards Ticino. We then descent to Val Camadra, and the village of Campo Blénio at 1200m and the only accommodation in the village, the Ospicio Camerio.
DAY 5
After crossing a dam and a tunnel we have a long climb up the val Carassino to the Capana Adula UTOE at 2393m, a non-guarded refuges that is new and very well equipped.
DAY 6
Today is summit day, tackling the Rheinwaldhorn at 3402m before we double back through the Graubünden and descend a long narrow valley to the Läntahütte (2090m) via the Länta Gletscher.
DAY 7
Another summit today, the Güferhorn (3379m) taking in the Güferlücke (2863m) along the way. We first descent before climbing back (100 m) to Güferlücke (2863 m) and then heading to Zerveilasee Valley (1738 m) from where we transfer back to our hotel.
DAY 8
Transfer to Zurich train station or airport.
