NORTHERN STUBAI

NORTHERN STUBAI

Glaciers and accessible summits in the Austrian Tyrol

READY TO SKI ?

The Stubai range is found in the Central Eastern European Alps, on the western end of Austria between Italy, Germany and Switzerland, and is one of the most attractive ski touring destinations in the Alps. The southern part of the range is in Northern Italy, but most of the Stubai is in Austria. It is the steepest of the three massifs of the Austrian Tyrol (Silvretta, Oetztal, Stubai). The area offers some beautiful routes on the glaciers and many summits are accessible on skis at various levels of difficulty. The North part is less known, and we are offering a circuit route with many as summit ascents as possible.

• Accessible peaks
• Comfortable refuges
• Great Austrian skiing with loads of summits

DAY 2

We head directly out from Niederthai (1550m) and head up to the Schweinfurter Refuge (2034m) along the Horlachtal. Then, with lighter bags, we head out from the refuge for the afternoon to climb our first summit, the Peistakogel (2740m). Return descent to the refuge for the night.

DAY 3

We climb to Breiter Grieskogel (3287m, the highest summit in the area) via Zwieselbachjoch (2868m). Descent to Winnerbachsee Refuge (2362m) for the night.

Ascent of Winnerbacher Weisskogel (3182m) via Winnerbachjoch (2782m). Before reaching this pass we have the possibility of climbing to Westlicher Seeblaskogel (3048m). Descent to Westfalenhaus Refuge (2276m) where we will spend two nights.

DAY 5

Ascent of Hoher Seeblaskogel (3235m) with day packs. After the 800m descent there is the opportunity to climb to Langertaler Weisser Kogel (3217m). Re-descent to the Westfalenhaus Refuge.
