Queyras Ski Touring

Ski from our base in Molines en Queyras each day

Gaudissard

The Queyras, in the Southern French Alps, has the highest village in Europe inhabited year round, St Véran at 2040m. We will not be based here, but in a similarly perched village at 1800m, Molines en Queyras, which provides a comfortable base for a week of ski touring. Each day we adapt our itineraries to the weather and snow conditions, some days skiing out the front door and some days transferring in the van slightly further a field.

¤ Off piste skiing from our base in Molines en Queyras at 1800m

Itinerary

Gaudissard-Molines-En-Queyras-Hautes-AlpesDay 1: Meet at the airport and transfer to Molines en Queyras in the very comfortable gite "La Maison de Gaudissard" at 1800m.

Day 2: From the gite, we head directly out the door on our skis to tackle La Gardiole de l'Alp (2786m), a good warm up day to stretch the legs and find our technique.

Day 3: A short van transfer takes us to De Fontgillarde (2000m), from where we climb towards the Pic de Fond de Peynin (2912m). We then have a lovely long descent down towards the village of Aiguille at 1450m.

Day 4:  From the bottom of St Vèran (1850m) and the highest village in Europe, we climb the Pointe des Marcellettes (2909m). A circuit is possible so we come down a different way. We have a very beautiful arête just before the summit to look forward to.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERADay 5: Today we head out from the village of Ristolas, (1600m), and ascend the Pic Segur (2990m).

Day 6: Another day, another village... From Abriès today we head out for the Tour de la tête du Pelvas. We can use some lifts to gain altitude if the legs are beginning to protest at the week's efforts. From the high point we have a lovely descent in amongst the larch forest on the north-west side of the Valpréveyre.

Day 7: Final day, final village - this time Brunissard at 1750m beneath the famous Col d'Izoard, from where we climb to the Pic Côte Belle at 2850m, or the Lac de Souliers at 2500m. The return via the Col du Tronchet at 2347m makes for an interesting final day.

Day 8: Breakfast and return to airport.
