Valleys of the Lavedan

Mandy and I will be walking all the stages of the Valleys of the Lavedan hotel to hotel walk in the next couple of months to make sure that the notes are up to date before this summer. We did the most of the first stage from Salles to St Savin yesterday (stopping in Arras instead of pressing on to St Savin because it was time to pick up kids from school).

Summit of the Mont de GezIt was a gorgeous day and really lovely to be out walking in the sun after a cold couple of months. We had a bit of remnant snow on the north side of the Mont de Gez which we crunched through, before a stop at the top of the forestry track for a some lunch (Anouchka had been sleeping in the backpack but woke up hungry). As we circled around the Mont de Gez we got fabulous views of the whole Argeles valley and the summits above and beyond it. I have copied this photo from the web and it really does nicely show the view of snow capped mountains we had. In summer it is even lovlier because the valleys are so green.

This is a lovely first stage because you go from villages up to a summit and then back down into villages again. The view of the high Pyrenean chain is perhaps more spectacular as you are not in it and its all laid out in front of you.

Next stage St Savin-Cauteret on Friday as lovely sunny weather is announced all week.
